Glass does what ceramic cannot: it lets light pass through instead of reflecting it. Depending on whether it is opaline, tinted in the mass, or lacquered, it diffuses, colors, or concentrates the beam.
Opaline, milky and opaque, encloses the light source: no visible light point, regardless of the angle. This is the glass used for low-hanging fixtures, above a table.
Mass-tinted glass remains translucent. Its color is revealed especially when the lamp is switched on, and is projected onto the surrounding ceiling.
Lacquered glass is opaque and lined with a reflective surface. It directs all light downwards and creates a clear, illuminated area.
